Welcome to the Bahá’ís of Strensall and Earswick, York

Welcome

The small but active community of Strensall and Earswick Bahá’ís, York, is using Bahá’u’lláh’s Spiritual Teachings to bring unity to people of all backgrounds.

The world today is rapidly changing. While there are conflicts we are also seeing humanity make great progress across the globe. Therefore in order for humanity to move forward we need a unified vision, one that will guide the nature and purpose of our lives. To Bahá’ís this vision can be found in the Writings and Teachings of Bahá’u’lláh, the Founder of the Bahá’í Faith

What Do Bahá’ís Believe?

Throughout history God has sent teachers, known as Manifestations of God. Their teachings are relevant to the needs of the time and have guided humanity both socially and spiritually. These Divine Educators for instance include Abraham, Krishna, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Jesus, Muhammad, the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh.

Bahá’ís believe that the current changes in the world can be viewed as humanity experiencing the changes of adolescence. In other words we believe that humanity is growing up.

For example Bahá’í teachings address such important themes as:

  • Oneness of God and religion
  • The oneness of humanity
  • Freedom from prejudice
  • Progressive revelation of religious truth
  • Development of spiritual qualities
  • Integration of worship and service
  • Fundamental equality of the sexes
  • Harmony between religion and science
  • Centrality of justice to all human endeavours
  • Importance of education

What Bahá’ís Do

Bahá’ís along with friends and neighbours, are working together to add to the spiritual and material progress of our society. Therefore, we strive to establish a pattern of community life that mirrors our belief in the unity of mankind.

Bahá’u’lláh’s vision for the unity of mankind can be made possible through individual and collective changes to our lives.
